How does Maternity Leave impact my Insurance?

As of December 3, 2017, the Government Employment Insurance (EI) amended their policy to allow parents the option to extend their parental benefits.

 

As well, Plan Members of a Group Insurance Plan have options as far as their Employment Group Insurance (in the below reference, the "Plan Member" is the Employee and the "Plan Sponsor" is the Employer:

As per the Employment Standards Act of British Columbia

"The plan member can choose to continue all benefits coverage, all except disability, or no coverage.

If the plan member chooses to continue the benefits coverage, the current premium contribution arrangement continues.

If the plan member chooses not to continue premium contributions, it remains your choice as the plan sponsor if you want to continue premium contributions for benefit coverage for that plan member.

As the plan sponsor, you must continue to make payments for benefits coverage that are 100% plan sponsor paid."
