Sun Life: Medical Cannabis optional coverage available

As per news release from Sun Life: www.sunlife.ca

Available as of March 1, 2018 Sun Life has reassessed it's position on medical cannabis coverage deciding it can be added as optional coverage under an Extended Health Care benefit.

This decision has been determined based on current medical evidence as well as popular opinion from Plan Member's requests. This optional coverage can be requested as an add-on from Plan Sponsors. This optional coverage will include a yearly maximum, coverage criteria and a prior approval process.

Conditions such as Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, HIV/AIDS, palliative care patients, and other conditions requiring examination and approval from Sun Life could be eligible for this coverage.

As legal access to cannabis for medical purposes is controlled in Canada, plan members meeting Sun Life's criteria for coverage must follow the government legislation rules and seeks guidance provided by Health Canada for their recommendations on medical research regarding medical conditions and their reaction to medical cannabis treatment.
